The Maltese Ftira derives from the Arabic word "Fatira" which means unleavened bread. It is part of the Maltese heritage and it is normally served a spread of "kunserva," olives, tuna and capers!

The Ftira I make is with sourdough which makes the texture slightly more dense than what we are normally used to buying from the Maltese bakeries. It takes 48 hours to make a sourdough ftira so the taste will be slightly different to what we are used to!
